Welcome to the website of the motor ship De Hoop, a 24-meter long Hagenaar. The ship, laid down in 1908, was used for the transport of cargo until 1969. In 1969, the ship was bought by the Argonauten, a sea scouts group from Rotterdam. They have used it since then as a floating clubhouse, moored in the Rotte.

On this site you will find all kinds of information about our ship: an extensive description of the ship, its history, (historical) photos and documents.

ANBI status for the Stichting Hagenaar de Hoop Posted on: 22-10-2018 – Category: General Did you know that on October 12, 2017, the Stichting de Hagenaar de Hoop was awarded ANBI status by the tax authorities? The year 2018 is already well underway and you can still make a donation, which, given the ANBI status, is deductible in your 2019 tax return for 2018. De Hoop had a slipway in 2016 and will have to go back on the slipway in 2021, five years later. The foundation board is already saving for this slipway, for which we will need at least 15,000 euros. Please help us save by transferring your donation to bank account number: NL32INGB0004535552 in the name of Stichting Hagenaar de Hoop. Thank you in advance. Henk Fassotte, treasurer.

Historical photos of sister ship the Goede Verwachting Posted on: 10-10-2008 – Category: General During the reception for the 100th anniversary of the Hoop, we

received 2 photos from the niece of Cor van der Dussen (who grew up on board the Hoop) of the ship where she grew up. This was also a hagenaar with the name Goede Verwachting. Despite the fact that the ship is also a hagenaar, she still looks significantly different from the Hoop. The fact that a ship was a hagenaar was mainly due to its dimensions and not to its construction, and that is clearly visible in the photos: photo 1 and photo 2

Celebration of 100 years of De Hoop Posted on: 06-10-2008 – Category: General On Saturday 4 October 2008 we celebrated that MS De Hoop was launched 100 years ago. For the scouts and dolphins of the Argonauten and their parents there was a bike ride to the Hop, which had taken up mooring at the Rottemeren for this occasion. This was followed by a reception, including a speech by Cor van der Dussen, who grew up on board the Hoop as a child. Take a quick look at the photos
The Hoop back from the shipyard Posted on: 19-07-2008 – Category: General As previously announced, the Hoop went to the shipyard for the completion of the restoration and also for some regular maintenance. From 3 to 17 July, the Hoop was at the Boxce Shipyard in Delft. In the meantime, she is already back at her own spot in the Rotte. The results of the work can be seen in the photo album

We will also be in Gouda from 24 to 27 July, where the reunion of the National Association for the Preservation of Historical Commercial Vessels ( LVBHB ) will take place under the name Goudse Glorie . We are located between the Bikobrug and the Kock van Leeuwensluis ( map )

Final phase of restoration plan started Posted on: 13-06-2008 – Category: General

The final phase of the restoration plan was initiated on 13 May 2008 with the awarding of a subsidy of almost € 7000 by the Alexanderpolder submunicipality. Although much had already been prepared in-house, the financial coverage was still insufficient to proceed with the required restoration until 13 May 2008.
As previously mentioned, the anchor winch had already been taken to the Boxce shipyard. De Hoop will be launched there at the beginning of July. Click here for more information about the work to be carried out.

From 24 July to 27 July, the fully restored Hoop can be admired in Gouda, where the reunion of the National Association for the Preservation of Historic Commercial Vessels ( LVBHB ) will take place under the name Goudse Glorie .
The centenary of De Hoop will take place on Saturday 4 October 2008. Invitation and programme to follow.

Anchor winch to the shipyard for overhaul Posted on: 25-05-2008 – Category: General On Thursday 15 May, the anchor winch was lifted from the foredeck of the Hoop. The winch is going to the Boxce shipyard in Delft for overhaul. The cheeks of the winch in particular are badly affected by rust and need to be replaced. The Hoop will also be sailing to the shipyard for major maintenance soon. More about this soon. The photos of the removal of the winch can be found in the photo album.

Advertisement “Ship wanted” above water Posted on: 28-02-2008 – Category: General It took an afternoon of searching in the archives in Deventer, but Frans Schouffoer found it:

the advertisement in which then skipper Aad van Broekhoven asks on behalf of the Argonauts for a suitable motor ship that can serve as a floating camp/clubhouse. The advertisement was placed on December 5, 1969 in the magazine Schuttevaer. You can find it among the other historical documents at downloads .

New historical photos Posted on: 24-12-2007 – Category: General New photos have been added to the photo album of the Hoop in its years before the Argonauts. We received these photos from the

skipper/owner at the time: Freek Kamst. The photos show how the Hoop was used well, sometimes so fully loaded that the water reached the gangway! And also the tiller of the bow rudder can be seen (see small photo next to it. The new old photos can be found here .

Measurement certificate extended for 15 years Posted on: 30-10-2007 – Category: General Last month the measurement certificate for the Hoop was extended for 15 years. This is a document containing all the dimensions and weights of a ship. In downloads you will find an example of a measurement certificate from 1958. When a ship is thoroughly renovated , everything has to be remeasured.

That was not the case with us, so we were done quickly. A few new stamps in it and we are good to go for another 15 years!
