MS De Hoop was laid down in 1908 at the Stofberg shipyard in Mijdrecht. In March 1909, the ship was transferred to skipper Marinus de Looff Jr, who lived in Willige Langerak. The ship was then still called Spera in Deo. In 1923, skipper Jan van der Dussen became the owner. In 1930, he had the Hoop fitted with a mechanical drive, an ABC auxiliary engine. He had the ship rebuilt even more in the years that followed. The ship was thus4 meterlengthened and the tiller replaced by a steering gear. Around 1950 he also had a wooden wheelhouse built and a loading boom mounted. Also a new engine was installed, a 30 HP Gulner, which was replaced a few years later by a 40 HP Lister.
In 1961 Jan van der Dussen passed away. His son Johnnie sailed on the ship for another 4 years. He had a bow rudder installed and the loading boom removed again. In 1966 he sold the ship to Evert de Boer, who sold the ship a year later to Freek Kamst. The bow rudder was lost after a collision. The Lister was also replaced twice by a new one after the crankshaft broke.
In 1969, the Argonauts bought the ship and had it converted into a floating clubhouse. Since then, it has been moored in the Rotte and is used by the dolphins as a clubhouse all year round. The scouts also go camping with the ship
